High SPF on Sunscreen is just a marketing gimmick
Researchers in the US say that 73% of the almost 1500 sunscreens, moisturisers and lip balms tested don’t work well, or contain potentially harmful ingredients. The Washington DC based Environmental Working Group recently released its 2017 Guide to Sunscreens which raises concerns about most sunscreens on the market today.
In particular, researchers found worrisome ingredients such as oxybenzone and retinyl palmitate. Oxybenzone is a known hormone disruptor and some evidence suggests that adding retinyl palmitate, a form of vitamin A, to sunscreens could heighten sun sensitivity. Were pleased to say that EezySun doesn’t contain either of these ingredients
“The vast majority of sunscreens available to Americans aren’t as good as they should be,” said Sonya Lunder, senior research analyst at EWG and lead author of the guide. “Sunscreens will not improve until the Food and Drug Administration sets stronger rules, reviews harmful chemicals, and allows the use of new ingredients that offer stronger UVA protection.”
A poor quality sunscreen may prevent sunburn, but won’t shield skin from UVA rays that cause skin aging and possibly melanoma. EWG estimates that half of all sunscreens on the U.S. market could not be sold in Europe, where stronger UVA protection is required.
So it pays to make sure that you are using a good sunscreen and were proud to stand behind our EezySun product which has the highest quality and best performing formulation.
